What does afterva even mean?
First. We would prefer it if you would pronounce it as “af-terr-vah” instead of “after-va” but it’ll probably still end up as the latter.
However that won’t stop us from trying.
Second. Yes, it is a randomly generated word but from this day forth, it will become your trusted source for oral health information. We wish for you to choose us as your sole source for all things related to your mouth.
Our Story
Initially, we started writing about oral health information in order to attract more patients for our dental office in Long Island City, NY.
The purpose was to increase the awareness of our presence in our local community. We did not wish to become a part of the statistic where the majority of local businesses close their doors within 5 years after opening.
However, as we wrote more and more, we noticed that it was relatively rare to find a doctor that would author an article themselves. More often than not, it would be medically reviewed by one but not authored by one.
It seems as if most of the health information online is written by non-healthcare professionals.
So we asked ourselves…
Where have all of the doctors who wrote gone?
It’s not as if they don’t write because their presence is littered all over the scientific community and in scientific journals. However, where their presence is barely palpable is in the space for the general populace.
Perhaps their time is better spent on actual clinical care rather than on educating the public online. Maybe it’s not financially feasible for them to write online instead of practicing when they are saddled with student loan debt.
Is it really not worth their time?
That is a shame because we do believe that people value spending more time with their doctors, whether that be in-person or online.
Wouldn’t you like to see the answer to your health question written by a doctor or maybe even your doctor? We would.
That is why we wish to see a world that is different from the one that we see today and that was how afterva came to be.
Our Vision
A world that demands health information to be authored by doctors
We at afterva envision a future where it will be commonplace for that article you’re reading to be authored by a doctor and we just can’t imagine it being any other way.
Our Mission
Create a space where all information is hand written by doctors and inspire changes that’ll ripple through the healthcare industry
Our Purpose
Being a catalyst for progress
Regardless of whether we succeed or fail, we will always have all of our information authored by licensed healthcare professionals.
It doesn’t matter if that’s not how it’s done. It doesn’t matter if you think that is inefficient.
We will persist in doing so until we bring our vision into fruition.
We’re currently a small team but one day hope to have others join us. So if you’ve a great idea to share, we’d love to hear it. It’ll be even better if you decide to stay.
Help us grow into an entity that becomes impossible to ignore.
Our Core Values
We believe that exceptional human capital is in short supply.
We believe in truth and transparency above all else.
We wish to leave this planet in a better place than when we set foot upon it.
Who inspired us
We can’t invent the wheel because it has already been done, nor do we wish to reinvent it either. We’re not at liberty to call most of these ideas ours because they aren’t and we believe in giving credit to where they’re due.

Forward Looking Statement
As of the moment, we (afterva) are borrowing resources from our local brick and mortar dental practice in Long Island City. However, we anticipate becoming self-sustainable within the next five years by growing afterva organically.
The thesis is but a simple one. AI along with medical writers without first hand experience cannot out write nor out create actively practicing healthcare professionals who are determined.
We believe, personal experience trumps theory every time.
Eventually at some point in the distant future, we will become a complete library on oral health information. Once we’ve achieved that, we’ll continue to maintain our progress and may slowly branch out into adjacent interests without diluting our core values.
One of particular interest to us is to ultimately pivot afterva into a philanthropic organization.
We will start with baby steps and small gestures of charity but eventually we hope to progress into philanthropic ventures. We will carefully select an unattended problem in this world which we believe deserves a solution and we hope that we succeed in doing so.
Just so that we are clear… No, afterva is NOT a niche site and no, we are also NOT building a brand. Afterva is more of a deliberately developmental organization or a learning organization.
